Description*

The video tutorials provide information on the basics of Quantum-GIS and photogrammetry as part of the 'Training in Action' project, aimed at conserving cultural heritage in Libya and Tunisia. They can be accessed through the 'Training in Action,' official Youtube channel.

The training project is funded by the British Council-Cultural Protection fund with Durham University, King’s College London, University College of London UCL, Department of Antiquities of Libya DoA and the Institut National du Partimone de Tunisie INP as partners. It intends to train heritage professionals in the techniques of documentation, preventative conservation and heritage documentation.

The tutorials illustrate the use of aerial photography in conducting field surveys and monitoring archaeological sites to identify risk and potential damage including conflict and looting. It includes knowledge of using technologies such as drones to catalogue individual monuments.

Some of the topics discussed in the tutorials are:

  • Processing drone data with Agisoft Photoscan and Quantum-GIS
  • Modelling archaeological features from the site of Thyna (Tunisia)
  • Creating museum objects using Photoscan
  • Overlapping images in Photoscan
