Description*

This guideline e-book focuses on the practical planning and training needed for the preparation of workshops aimed at the implementation of the RE-ORG method for storage reorganization in museums and other cultural institutions. It is offered by the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) at their website.

Workshops on the RE-ORG implementation phase (Phase 4) involve making decisions about whether or not objects are part of the collection, moving collections, negotiating and deciding how best to store certain objects, building custom storage solutions or adapting existing units, as well as managing time, people and resources. The objective of RE-ORG workshops is to ensure that participants gain hands-on experience working on real storage rooms and a real collection of a host museum, before they start reorganizing their own storage. The RE-ORG method offers a step-by-step approach to help those who work with cultural and heritage collections to reorganize their current storage rooms, with a focus on the creative, yet safe, use of existing resources.

Some of the contents of the guideline are:

  • Selecting the host museum
  • RE-ORG quick diagnosis
  • Coaching strategies
