Description*

This is a compilation of a wide array of conservation guides ranging from caring for damaged books to salvaging library collections damaged by water or fire. It can be accessed through the website of the British Library.

Different tutorials provide guidance on understanding and preventing causes of damage, defining preservation policies, and establishing appropriate storage facilities. Tutorials include a detailed guide on understanding and preventing books and archives from paper pest damage, but also several assessments to be conducted while planning to move a library collection, including potential risks, transportation routes and type of packing materials.

Some of the contents of the tutorials are:

  • Basic preservation for library and archive collections
  • Pests in paper-based collections
  • Library and archive storage furniture
