Description*

These didactic resources by the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI) provide information on the courses, workshops and training conducted by the institute. These resources can be accessed through the institute website.

The GCI works internationally to advance conservation practice in the visual arts — objects, collections, architecture, and sites. The institute serves the conservation community through scientific research, education and training, field projects, and dissemination of information. In all its endeavors, the GCI strives to create and deliver knowledge that contributes to the conservation of the world's cultural heritage.

The educational resources include teaching guidelines, case studies and bibliographic references for use by students, educators, as well as professionals in the fields of archaeology, conservation, and architecture. The teaching notes also provide web-links to additional learning resources to support learning outcomes.

Some of the topics covered in the resources are:

  • Archaeological site protection and management
  • Characterization of materials
  • Conservation of collections
  • Earthen architecture conservation
  • Mosaics conservation
