International Studies in Vernacular Architecture

This course investigates various facets of vernacular architectural tradition, addressing related problems and challenges. It is offered by the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee through the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), an online education platform.

The course is structured to provide a broad perspective on the role of the world's vernacular architectural traditions in the context of the need for urgent and pertinent responses to a variety of global problems, ranging from climate change to housing issues. This course will provide the next generation of students and instructors with the essential knowledge and understanding of the world's vernacular traditions. The proposed course can be considered an elective subject by schools imparting architectural education, sociology, anthropology, and cultural geography.
