Description*

This module is devoted to France's contribution to the UNESCO World Heritage List, in terms of actors, procedures and criteria. It is taught by knowledge experts from the French Ministry of Culture and Communication. This is available through e-patrimoines, an e-learning training program launched by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication (Directorate General of Cultural Heritage–Department of European and International Affairs). It was undertaken in partnership with the University Agency of the Francophonie (AUF) and the World Digital Francophone University (UNFM).

Under the terms of the 1972 UNESCO Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, only properties which have outstanding universal value are likely to be included in this list. This course presents France's experience in this field and is based on examples of inscribed properties presented by the managers of these sites (monuments, historic centers, extended properties, serial properties and natural properties).

Some of the course contents are:

  • Management plan for the Nord-Pas de Calais mining basin
  • 1972 UNESCO convention
  • Mont-Saint-Michel and its bay
  • Prehistoric sites and decorated caves of the Vézère Valley
  • Monitoring and management of cultural goods
